Ditch the Bouquet & Garter Toss: Try a Merch Toss Instead!

Not every couple wants to do the traditional bouquet and garter toss, and honestly, I don’t blame them. It’s one of those traditions that can feel outdated or awkward, and some couples just aren’t into the idea of calling out the single people in the room. That’s why I always suggest a Merch Toss—and trust me, when couples go for it, it’s always a hit!

The Merch Toss in Action

One of my recent couples took my advice from our very first planning call. Instead of the usual bouquet and garter toss, they had two custom T-shirts made that said something along the lines of:

"I went to party at the Thompson wedding, and all I got was this T-shirt!"

You could also do a simple monogram logo. They rolled up the shirts, attached tags that read “Gals” and “Guys,” and made it part of the reception during the dance floor fun.

First, we brought all the ladies onto the dance floor, hyped them up, and had the bride toss the “Gals” T-shirt. The energy was LIT, and EVERYONE got involved. We did the same thing for the guys and guests LOVED it!

Why I Recommend the Merch Toss

I suggest this to all of my couples, and while some go for it and others stick with tradition, it’s always fun to see creative ways couples mix things up. A Merch Toss is:

Inclusive – No more calling out the single guests, everyone can join in! Memorable – Who doesn’t love a fun wedding keepsake? A Fun Surprise – Guests never expect it, and it always brings great reactions.

If you’re planning your wedding and looking for a unique twist on a classic tradition, consider tossing some merch instead! Have fun with it—custom shirts, hats, or even a fun prop that fits your theme.
