5 Things You Might Not Know You Need (or Want) for Your Wedding Day

When you’re planning a wedding, it’s easy to get caught up in the big decisions like choosing the perfect venue, finding your dream dress, and locking in your vendors. But sometimes, it’s the smaller details that make the biggest difference. After working so many weddings, I’ve seen firsthand what guests notice, what couples forget, and what ends up being a total game changer. Here are five things that often go overlooked but can make your wedding day smoother, more comfortable, and even more memorable.

1. Tabletop Fly Fans
If you’re hosting an outdoor wedding or a reception with open doors, this one’s a must. I’ve been to more than a few events where flies basically attacked the food, and trust me, it’s not the vibe you’re going for. Tabletop fly fans are discreet, affordable, and they actually work. You’ve invested so much money in your catering—protect it. Keeping food fresh and bug-free is one of those small details guests won’t comment on, but they’ll absolutely notice if it’s missing.
2. Scented Candle for the Restrooms
This is one of those tiny touches that instantly makes people think, “Wow, they thought of everything.” Placing a nice, lightly scented candle in the restroom creates a welcoming and luxurious feel. It’s simple, inexpensive, and adds that extra layer of hospitality that guests remember. You can even match the candle scent to your wedding’s overall vibe—think clean, floral, or something warm and subtle.
3. Late-Night Snack
Always a hit! People love food, and after hours of dancing, drinking, and celebrating, a late-night snack can be the perfect surprise. Whether it’s tacos, sliders, or warm cookies and milk, it’s a crowd-pleaser every single time. If you’re looking to stretch your budget, I’d personally skip the extra cost some bars charge for specialty drinks and invest that money here instead. Guests will thank you, and you’ll end your night on a high note.
4. Portable Steamer
This one is overlooked so often, but it’s one of the most useful things you can have on-site. Between traveling, sitting, hugging, and dancing, clothes wrinkle fast. Having a portable steamer handy can save your dress, your groom’s suit, and even the wedding party from last-minute panic. A crisp outfit looks better in photos, and a quick steam can make all the difference.
5. Emergency Stain Remover Because spills happen. Whether it’s makeup, red wine, or a little sauce from that late-night snack, an instant stain remover pen or wipes can save the day. Keep one in your clutch, the bridal suite, and even hand one to your coordinator or maid of honor. You’ll be glad you did.
Sometimes it’s not about spending more. It’s about thinking through the guest experience and your comfort throughout the day. The best weddings feel effortless, and that’s usually because someone took the time to plan for the little things.
